KICK STARTING YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY IN 2025

Happy New Year! Welcome to 2025! And welcome to the first Genesis Health Solutions Blog of the new year! These blogs are a great habit to start for the new year. They are much more than just “filling in the gap” between 30-day follow-ups. They are about focus, encouragement and education - because the more you understand about the true principles of weight loss, the easier your journey is going to be.

If we are going to make 2025 different in terms of losing weight and keeping it off, we have to think differently in many ways. We often hear it said, “Out with the old and in with the new” this time of year, and we really do need to build on that. And what that looks like may be different for people individually.

Here are some ways we have seen clients approach weight loss:

  • The rule follower. This person is ready to go. They love the structure the GHS plan provides them. They start feeling better quickly and are highly motivated as the weight falls off. These people love what they are doing. They are planners by nature, so things come easier for them. They do great at maintaining their weight loss.
  • The person that has tried multiple plans in the past and has lost weight on them. They understand more than the average person about concepts of weight loss. They have read a lot on metabolism, the glycemic index of foods, they understand how to count calories or macros, and they have even done some intermittent fasting or keto diets. However, they don’t fully understand principles of true weight loss, and the idea of eating more food is confusing to them. So, they mix what they have done before with our existing plan, and it doesn’t work because the program is altered.
  • The person wanting and expecting fast results. For the majority of people, weight loss is not a constant drop – a downhill ski slope of shedding weight. You have 100’s of hormones in your body and they, along with other body fluids, need to re-adjust as you lose weight. Your body can slow down or even stall weight loss during this process. The vast majority of the time, weight loss will pick back up once your body adjusts.
  • The person that struggles with discouragement and impatience. Discouragement often comes from not having a proper understanding of weight loss, which leads to false expectations. Sometimes we might need to be more realistic. It is helpful to remember that you are not embarking on a diet – it’s a healthy lifestyle. Set your mind on long-term behavioral change within the context of a lifestyle.
  • The person that knows what to do, but they just don’t do it. Knowing what to do isn’t enough. Application is everything. The problem is that so many of us have an internal dialogue that is very self-defeating. It’s basically self-sabotage. Often times, clients don’t even realize that is how they are thinking. They don’t really consider it, but these thoughts operate in the background.

Decide today that you will take charge of your health one day at a time and one meal at a time. It’s all about consistency and perseverance. And it’s all about you being good to yourself – being kind to yourself and not feeling guilty and defeated.

Let’s do this thing! Start by putting the past behind you and starting fresh today. You can’t change yesterday, so there’s no sense dwelling on it, since it will never move you forward. However, you can write a new chapter for 2025… starting now!
