Everything with our lifestyle is constantly changing or morphing in multiple ways. The same thing is true with changing to a healthy eating lifestyle. This is because we are trying to change a big part of our lives, which often includes a dimension of our lifestyle that was well established. As we move forward on our journey of lifestyle change, we often find ourselves having to learn new things.
Change is a process. We learn about what works and what doesn’t. Sometimes we even encounter setbacks as life happens in the middle of our plans.
If we change the way we look at a healthy eating lifestyle, the situation we are looking at will change.
- It’s all about how we choose to look at change in healthy eating.
We do have a choice. That choice has to be intentional. For example, you will have to choose to think about all the things you can have as opposed to dwelling on all the things you can’t have.
- Planning is required.
This involves dealing with difficult emotions and maybe even re-arranging elements of our lives. We often know we will be much better off if we change, because we understand what negative emotions and approaches are doing to our lives.
- Focus energy on building something new.
Stop fretting about all the things you used to have. Instead, build on the new. Learn how to create a new lifestyle and a better future.
- Think differently about what you are trying to change.
Something as simple as changing your thinking can change your life. We have to be proactive, to be intentional.
- Give your mind the room it needs to grow and expand.
It’s about looking at everything that hasn’t worked for you before, or isn’t working now, and being open to other ways that might. Give yourself permission to experience and adapt to the process of change and stop fighting it.
- Don’t let your feelings dictate your actions.
Your actions will eventually dictate your feelings if you show up to do the best you can each day. This builds confidence and puts you in control, which results in you beginning to grow a little at a time. Pretty soon, you will start to feel empowered.
- We all need an anchor in the storm.
Our weekly coaching calls are an anchor. We feed you a steady diet of truth and educate you on foundational principles of weight loss. You also are connected with a larger group of our weight loss community through the coaching calls and the Facebook client page. It’s important to be connected to people who understand you and your struggle.
Give yourself permission for changing to a healthy eating lifestyle and learning how to manage changes in order to grow.
American author, speaker and consultant, William Bridges, was well known for what he calls transitions. He believed that they are a key in being able to succeed in making changes. Bridges said that a transition is the “psychological process of adapting to change.”
Bridges also indicated that change comes more from managing the journey than announcing the destination. This view is so relatable to weight loss.
Keep moving forward while changing to a healthy eating lifestyle, even if it’s a little at a time.
Embrace some change in your thinking to the level of your ability. Enjoy your journey. Don’t look at it as punishment or denial. Change your thinking from looking at all the things you can’t have, to all the things you can have and can do. If you embrace that type of thinking, you will win every time.
