DEVELOPING CONSISTENCY

One of the biggest problems we have when trying to improve some area of our life is that we never implement much in the form of consistent action to make it happen. Maybe the second biggest problem is that we don’t perform consistently in implementing our plans over a longer time period.
Genesis Health Solutions | DEVELOPING CONSISTENCY

We really identify with who we believe ourselves to be, based on what we do daily. If we work on developing consistency in our routines we can change our self-identifying belief, because we aren’t what we do from time-to-time, we are what we do day-in-and-day-out.

Structure and solid tangible tools are needed to create healthy, consistent patterns and break old habits.

  • Establish a morning ritual.

It will set the stage for the rest of your day. It creates structure, and structure is key. This is how you begin developing consistency. A productive morning ritual could include doing exercise or stretching, reading a devotional, scripture, or self-help book. You can also write in a journal, make a daily to-do list, pray, or even listen to an encouraging or uplifting podcast on something you need to learn more about.

  • Focus the process of developing consistency, not the potential results.

Take responsibility for showing up and doing what you have decided to do, not for the results. The results will come as a reward from your actions as you are developing consistency. When you focus on the process, you will be a lot more relaxed and encouraged to move forward than if you focus on the potential results that never come as quickly as you want them to.

  • Be kind to yourself while implementing your process of consistency.

Not every day is perfect and beating yourself up will never move you forward. It will just lower your sense of self-worth, and increase more negative self-talk, which is hard to overcome.

  • Break your goals down into smaller pieces.

Realize that your end goal is like a road trip to your favorite destination. Milestones provide encouragement that we are getting closer to that destination. A five to ten pound loss, is a great marker. Maybe your milestones are things like wearing a smaller size in clothing, getting off a medication, no pain, sleeping better, or having more energy.

  • Keep your goals in sight.

Write them down and put them where you can see them daily. Revisit those goals every morning to help make you conscious of the worth of all the daily actions you will be implementing – like your morning routine, achieving your milestones and organizing your tasks.

  • Talk to someone who encourages you to work towards your dreams.

That can be your spouse, best friend, mentor, a colleague, parent or sibling – or anyone who truly cares about you. Set up specific times to update them on your progress as well as your struggles. Be accountable.

  • Develop consistency by constantly moving forward regardless of failures.

A person can’t always control everything. We have to be willing to take responsibility over those things we can control. We all make mistakes. Review what you do so that you can find out where things go wrong and then set out to address those issues.

  • Set realistic goals and expectations.

In weight loss circles, clients’ expectations are often unrealistic – especially after years of metabolic damage. So, don’t set yourself up for disappointment or supposed failure when you really just need to adjust your expectations. It’s liberating, really.

The processes you are implementing today in your Genesis health and weight loss plan are going to help you reap a lot of benefits – not only for today or tomorrow – but also in a year, 10 years and over a lifetime. Staying consistent will be the ticket to helping you achieve your ultimate goals.
