WHETHER YOU THINK YOU CAN, OR WHETHER YOU THINK YOU CAN’T… YOU’RE RIGHT

WHETHER YOU THINK YOU CAN, OR WHETHER YOU THINK YOU CAN’T… YOU’RE RIGHT

If you change your thoughts, you can control much of your life. Even if you can’t control outcomes, you can control how you choose to respond to them. If you think you can, you will; if you think you can’t, you won’t; if you think you are defeated, you are; if you think you will fail, you will. It’s not so much about what you are going through, but what you think about what you are facing that makes the difference.

We all fail to succeed at some things, but you can learn from those failures, those shortcomings… just remember, it’s really only failure if you choose to give up. As long as you learned from it, you can still push forward with the confidence that you can do it.

This is why it’s so important to think correctly. If you focus on bad things, frustrating things, failures, fear, and negativity – then you can expect what they deliver… a lack of peace. Defeat.

Your thoughts become words in your mind, your words turn into actions, and your actions determine the quality of your life. It really is that simple. However, you have to recognize the defeating thoughts and conversations you have in your headfirst, before you can turn them around.

We are responsible for what we think about, worry about, dwell on or brood about. It is our choice what thoughts we allow to enter into our minds and to determine our decisions and the quality of our lives. Our thoughts can be our best friends or our worst enemies.

While we all may be “capable” of making this weight loss journey into a new healthy lifestyle of eating, it’s our motivation that will determine our decision to begin the change. However, it’s our attitude that will determine how well we do it. How we choose to perceive it, and how we think about this journey, will determine the path we take.

And that’s not to say that it will always be easy. Every good thing you’ve accomplished and reaped a personal reward from was met with some type of resistance.

Resistance can be your friend. Without the resistance of water, a ship can’t float; without the resistance of air, a plane can’t fly; without the resistance of gravity, you can’t get up and walk. The bottom line is that adversity is opportunity. You have to see it for what it is and use it to your advantage mentally.

The power in making the change is about trading the lies we believe for truth. It all starts with how you’re thinking is affecting your life negatively in many different ways. The more you engage in the process of replacing the lies you believe with solid truths about who you really are – the sooner it becomes automatic or more natural for you to think that way overall.

But the process of implementing those truths came with something prompting you to think negatively. We call them triggers or situations that trigger your thoughts into old patterns and ways of thinking and responding. So, basically, triggers are opportunities. Adversity is opportunity. You just have to choose to see it that way.

If you don’t have a situation in your weight loss journey that triggered you to want to eat unhealthy foods that won’t help you with your weight loss or health goals, how will you ever overcome your battle with food long term. Each time you are faced with a challenge and overcome it, you get stronger, until eventually things are more automatic. The fight tends to ease up and fade.

You just have to start somewhere, believe you can do it, and tell yourself the truth when difficulty arises. That’s true in everything folks – mountain hiking, weight loss and everything in between. It’s a principle - a principle that will sustain you long after your plan is over.

Remember, you will always act in a manner consistent with your innermost beliefs about yourself. If you believe you are incapable of success with your weight loss, you will do a number of things to make sure you don’t succeed – consciously or unconsciously. But, if you believe you are capable of succeeding (mind you, not being perfect), you will walk, talk and act like it – your beliefs will change, and you will eventually reach your goals.

“As a man thinks in his heart, so he is.” In other words, what you believe on the inside is who you are. This is a very simple, but very powerful truth. So, put some of these truths into action starting today. Identify those things you are allowing to get in your way mentally and emotionally and begin to change the voices in your head that are dictating your life!
