Is your "diet" going to be different this time? Why diets fail and how to solve it.

January ranks at the top of the charts for fresh starts and new beginnings, and health and weight loss always fall at #1 for Americans each year. Perhaps this year it’s more important than ever. The stats on Obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and Nonalcoholic Fatty liver disease are not getting better and they are largely attributed to weight gain and eating the wrong foods.

What’s more, those conditions all put you at increased risk of severe illness from Covid and other viruses. So, it’s important to take your health and weight seriously.


A lot of people are going to start a “diet” and Diet is definitely the ultimate 4-letter word. In fact, the first 3 letters spell die! Especially considering that the past few months our minds have been pre-occupation with food, Halloween candy, Thanksgiving, Christmas and the New Year’s Eve feast. And we hardly have time to detoxify from our food coma, just to run right into Super Bowl events and Valentine’s Day candy. And the list of special occasions goes on and on. So, what do we do about this? Honestly, if you look at the calendar, there is no good time if you are approaching your weight loss from a traditional “diet” perspective.


And if you do go on a diet, it becomes more of who you are and not just what you do. You see, what you “do” is a product of who you “are” or who you believe yourself to be. For instance, if you believe yourself to be a person who has no control over their choices throughout the year and just accepts the fact that they will be in a perpetual state of dieting throughout their days – you’ve defined yourself, and you will become a product of that thinking.


Hence, you will ride the diet rollercoaster time and time again. The problem with diet thinking, is that at some point, it is going to stop working for you. You eat low calorie and may lose some initial weight, but you also take muscle with it and decrease your metabolism. Then, when you start eating again, you gain quickly from your lowered metabolism, and you end up with a higher body fat percentage. Eventually, you find yourself unable to move the needle on the scale at all.


So, is your attempt at weight loss going to be different this time? Are you ready to learn how to eat real food – not frozen meals or pre-packaged foods. Maybe you’ve read a lot on metabolism, the glycemic index of foods, and understand that it’s not about calories or you’re one of the many people out there doing intermittent fasting or keto, but you still struggle with weight. It has to do with body chemistry, hormonal imbalances, metabolic issues, cravings, etc. It’s not about willpower and calories, in fact, the problem for some is they eat too little because they’re scared to death!


Diet thinking will set you up to believe that you are eating a particular way (usually restrictive) in order to get to a particular weight. Then, once there, you start eating again and gain your weight back. You “hope” you won’t, but you do.
